4. | George G GUBBINS was born on 10 Mar 1810 in Knocklong, Limerick, Ireland (son of James GUBBINS and Bridget BARRY); died on 12 Mar 1881 in Chicago, Cook, Illinois, USA. Notes:
The mortality among the policemen this year was re- markably high. George Gubbins, lock-up keeper at the Harrison street station, died of cancer. (1881) from book: "History of the Chicago police from the settlement of the community to the present time, under authority of the mayor and superintendent of the force" http://www.archive.org/stream/historyofchicago00flin/historyofchicago00flin_djvu.txt found this message on genealogy.com: Dear Ronald I wanted to reply to his message before I forgot. I have a photograph of George Gubbins b. Knocklong, County Limerick 1810, d. 1881 Chicago. The notation on reverse side states that he was a Captain of Police. George married a Jane O'Farrell, also of Limerick, and her probate records reveal that she had stepson Patrick Gubbins. Is there a connection?
