Subject: Obituary notice for Joyce Smith Joyce F. Smith Union- Joyce F. Smith, 69, of Union died Thursday, October 2, 2008. After a short courageous battle with lung cancer she left this world peacefully at her home with her loving family at her side. She was born to Joseph Albert and Anna (Legler) Hall on September 27, 1939, in Woodstock. She married Monroe “Smitty†Smith, Jr. on September 15, 1962, in Marengo, Illinois. She lived in the Marengo-Union area most of her life where she attended Java and Union grade school along with Marengo High School. She worked at Coils in Huntley, McGills Manufacturing and Van’s grocery store in Marengo, Claussen Pickles, Alco, Montgomery Ward and the Rose Farm in Woodstock and as a cherished housekeeper. She was also a Bluebird Campfire leader. She was a treasured matriarch of a family she gave endlessly to. She was a fabulous cook and gracious host. All were welcome in her home where she loved to watch Chicago Cubs and Bears games with her family and friends. She spent her time at her grandchildren’s sporting events and numerous activities, cheering on the Marengo Indians and the North Central College Cardinals. She encouraged her family in all that they did. She made friends with many and spent her free time making others happy. She was much appreciated and will be missed dearly. She is survived by husband, Monroe Smith Jr.; mother, Anna Hall; daughter, Stacey (Jim) Hare, Jr.; sons, Monroe “Bud†(Lynn Benson) Smith III, and Nicklas Smith Sr.; grandchildren, Benjamin (Sarah), Lizabeth, Anastasia, James III Hare, and Nicklas Smith Jr.; great-grandchild Connor Sacco; siblings Leo (Sherry) Hall, Dale (Bev) Hall, Gloria (Gene) Kraus, and Joe Hall; sister-in-law, Ila Carroll and many beloved aunts and an uncle, nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father Albert Hall, sisters-in-law Ellen and Maryanne Hall and Emma Ackman, brothers-in-law, Leonard Ackman Sr. and Thomas Carroll Jr., in-laws Monroe and Inez Smith Sr. Visitation will be from 3 to 7pm on Sunday, October 5, 2008, at Marengo-Union Funeral Home, 505 E. Grant Highway, Marengo. A memorial mass will be celebrated at 10:30am on Monday, October 6, 2008 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 323 N. Taylor St., Marengo. Her family would like to thank all of her devoted health caregivers for their compassion and time. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Relay for Life or Marengo Rescue Squad.
