Groves. Joseph was apparently one of seven children, but none of his siblings have been discovered yet. One prospect is a John Grove that bought land in Schuyler County Illinois around the same time as Joseph. Johns' descendants do not appear to have information on who his siblings or parents are. Another prospect is Mary Groves that married Jonathan Starkey. Mary and some of her descendants lived in Pike County Illinois and later descendants of hers married families that intermarried with Joseph Groves descendants. Mary's parentage also appears to be unknown, though it is known that she was born in VA are 1795 and moved to Ohio then to Pike Co IL. Joseph and Catherine came to Illinois from Cabell County VA (now WV) sometime between 1826 and 1828 per biographical information. Around this same time, Catherines brother Daniel Staley moved to Illinois as well, so it may be that they traveled together from VA with a possible stopover in Ohio along the way. Joseph is in the 1820 Cabell County census, and in the 1830 Schuyler County Illinois census so we know it was between those dates.
