- In the Crete NE News 5/20/1992..."Saline County pioneer Vaclav Prokop was one of the 11 children of Wanjal (born 1796) and Apzeta (Krakovic) Prokop. Vaclav was born in 1828. The family resided near Kralu Hradec, 60 miles east of Prague, in Czechoslovakia. Vaclav's brother, Frank Prokop, came to the United States and settled near Swanton (Swan City), NE. After a few years in Iowa, Vaclav left his family in Iowa and joined his brother Frank in NE. He began a search for relinquished land claims. Vaclav died in 1899 and is buried at the Big Blue Cemetery, four miles north of Wilber, NE."
