Wolenitz, today=B4s name VOLENICE is a parrochial village,486 meters =
above sea level, in the district (county) of STRAKONICE in the =
south-west Bohemia near the German border , that is formed by the SUMAVA =
Mountains (Boehmerwald in German).
In 1890 there were 99 houses and 620 Czech inhabitants. STRAKONICE – a district town in Bohemia, at the estuary of the VOLYNKA =
river to the Otava river (Otava is left tributory of the Moldau/Vltava) =
Today some 25000 inhabitants, production of motorcycles CZ (Cezet), =
today owned by Cagiva (Italian manufacturer ?)

SLOVNIK NAUCNY, unfortunately in Czech. I have no time to translate it =
entirely, therefore only some remarks in English: STRAKONICE, 389 meters a.s.l., 358 houses with 5500 inhabitants, mostly =
Czechs, a large jewish community (195 inh.). A seat of a county =
(political district) and juridicial circuit (a district court). =
Strakonice are worldwide famous by their production of islamic head =
caps, called "fez, fezes" (?) with 1200 employees, total production of =
half million of caps per year. Export to Turkey, South Europe, Africa.
Parrochial church of St. Margareth (sv. Marketa) built in 1583, a new =
town hall.
History: Originally a settlement on the Otava river in the 12th century, =
where a gold was washed. To protect this settlement a huge castle was =
built there. Strakonice were promoted by the town rights in 1367. In the =
15th century Strakonice was the seat of the Malthesian (Johanniten)Order =
in Bohemia.
=20 You mentioned the name Piseh, properly PISEK – this is another Czech =
town of 30000 people, 20 km from Strakonice to NE. Rgds Karel
