Marie J. Hayward, 84, of Elgin passed away on Friday, September 19, 2014 at Manor Care in Elgin. She was born on April 11, 1930 in Oak Park, the daughter of Victor & Emily VonDrasek.
Marie grew up in Brookfield and graduated from the University of Illinois at Chicago with a Bachelors Degree in Pharmacology. Marie and her husband Donald owned and operated Hayward Rexall Drug Store in South Elgin. She was then employed for many years by the Elgin Mental Health Center as the chief pharmacist prior to her retirement. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Elgin.
She is survived by her children Clarence (Brenda) Hayward, Elizabeth (William) Whitlock, David (Tena) Hayward, John (Debby) Hayward, Vicky (Mitchell) Lock, Carolyn (Mike) Williams. Grandchildren John Michael Hayward, Melissa Marie (Robert) Eberhardt, Jennifer (Mike) Jurkovic, Emily Whitlock, Jason Hayward, Victoria Lock, Jenifer and Alex Williams. Great grandchildren Madelynn, Tyler, Krista and Landen Eberhadt, Ella and Lucy Jurkovic.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Donald in 2008, daughter Margaret, grandson Christopher, and brother Leo.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at 10:00 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Elgin. Burial will follow in Lakewood Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4-8 PM in the Laird Funeral Home and on Wednesday morning at the church from 9:15 AM until the time of mass.
